Open Thread and Clarification: Blue, Green, and a WIne-dark Tree

This is important:

I'm chris the cynic, with the exception of one guest post, the only thing I have ever done here is post open threads, which I theoretically did weekly back in the day.  Years ago my depression got so bad that the open threads I posted became erratic and then stopped entirely because I wasn't very functional.

That's basically the end of the stuff that's important enough to get a bold heading saying, "This is important", so I'll post a pretty picture, and the rest of the explanation can follow that.

So, I'm not exactly an expert in what other people are thinking, but I would imagine people are wondering why I've started posting open threads here again.

In November, when this blog stopped being locked down and private, I asked if it was just being made available again, or if it would become active again and I asked if me doing open threads again would be wanted.  The answer to both was yes, but—on the non-me side—it was yes with the caveat that the intention to start actively posting again doesn't always translate into reality, something I know well (just look at how dead Stealing Commas is.)

On the me side of things, that's why there was an open thread in December, and then like six months of me having poor mental health meant that that was the only one in spite of the tentative kind=-of sort-of plan being one per month, ideally on the last Friday of the month.  That's still the plan, by the way, so – come August 28th – we'll see how well the plan is going.

And, yes, I used em–dashes (and en–dashes) instead of hyphen minuses specifically because I am not letting not-actually-AI or the ill–informed people who think em–dashes are a sure sign of something being "AI" (which science says is far from true) take them away from actual human beings.  Normally I'll settle for "--" or " - ", but after reading so many em–dash users feeling like they have to stop using their beloved em–dashes, I decided to actually use "—".

(And, yes again, I know that the tree isn't really all that wine-dark, but I wasn't satisfied with any of the other things I considered using to describe the color, and then that popped into my head.  So pretend it's an οἶνοψ δένδρον.)

Finally, I want to close with the standard open thread stuff, from back when there was a standard (more than 4 years ago.)
