Metapost: 2012 Ends, 2013 Begins

It seems like a lifetime ago when I wrote my first Blogger post, and like only yesterday when I was happily gibbering to myself because I had 55 followers in Google Reader. Now I have 162 (not that I'm obsessively keeping track or anything) and Google tells me I average 10 posts a week. Some of them are even good posts!

When I started this Blogger blog in February, I had no idea that I would ever meet so many wonderful people, be broadened by so many valuable points of view, and have so many incredible comments that made me laugh, cry, and in many cases both at the same time. I certainly had no idea that I would end up being so conflicted and challenged by my deconstructions, or that I might meet so many talented writers through the comments who would go on to inspire me to pick up writing again.

You are all -- all of you -- such wonderful people. I cannot thank you enough for being here, for reading what I write, and for creating such vibrant and meaningful discussions. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

It occurred to me today that you all know already how to stay connected with me via all the colorful buttons at the top of the blog, but I know I do not have all 162 of you (and goodness know how many of you don't use Google Reader and aren't in that number) as friends on Twitter, Facebook, the Blog Bounce, etc. If you'd like, please feel free to drop those into the comments for this post so that I can friend you.

Thank you all again for a truly wonderful year. Here's hoping the next one will be just as fun. I have a good feeling about that. *cheers*

2013? Are you blogging from THE FUTURE? :P If so, please send me all the relevant lottery numbers ASAP.

In any case, my Facebook dealio can be found under my real name Ian Javier PĂ©rez Zayas, and my blog...well, I want to wait until I actually post some stuff worth showing--soon, hopefully. ^_^

The whole future thing is very distracting. I almost forgot to bask in the warm fuzzies of you talking about how awesome we are. (Also, thank you and you're welcome!)

Ana: I know I do not have all 162 of you (and goodness know how many of you don't use Google Reader and aren't in that number) as friends on Twitter, Facebook, the Blog Bounce, etc.

That's because I don't have a Twitter or Facebook.
I have trouble with the 250-character limit in Tumblr replies; I don't think I'd do well with Twitter.
I can't even view Facebook pages: Dad blocked it. Occasionally things that I have some desire to see are hosted there, but it's not really that much of an inconvenience.

There's a Tumblr linked from my name. I don't know if it's sufficiently bloggy for you to want it for your blogroll, but it's the closest thing I've got.

Mime Paradox: If so, please send me all the relevant lottery numbers ASAP.

That only works if she lives in a timeline in which you won the lottery in 2012. Otherwise you'll probably cause the entire universe to implode from paradox. That or you'll survive but Ana-as-we-know-her will cease to exist*, or (best case scenario) you obtain the knowledge but never get to use it (hopefully in a non-fatal way) and the temporal breach is ignored as insignificant.

*Well, maybe. Might depend on whether she has communications with the you in her present, not just the you here. It may not affect her very much who wins the lottery.

The paradox isn't a problem if we're playing by the Brown Rules of Time Travel, where the only guaranteed fallout from any given change is a member of the Tannen family crashing into some manure.

I do most of my stuff on the Blog o' Doom, which you already have in your blogroll. But I do have a facebook account, http://facebook.com/mockwriting which mostly tends to family stuff and general snark; it's kind of like reading the blog, but shorter. Twitter account is also available from the sidebar of the blog o' doom, but I don't use it as much as I probably should.

Also, I've really enjoyed following along with what you've discussed here, even when I'm not actively contributing.

What's that a reference to?

Back to the Future. Emmet Brown is the guy who invents time travel. Biff Tannen and his son and his ancestor are the villains, and each one crashes into manure at some point.

Brin Bellway said...

I've only ever seen bits and pieces of Back to the Future. I must have missed the bit where Biff had a surname. I think I missed the manure bits, too. Nothing springs to mind, anyway.

Ha. You'd think in the two days since I wrote the post, I'd notice the typo, but no. I kind of like it, though. :D

Just to say I love your blog, I love your essays, and you're an awesome person. Frankly if you're still doing it in 2013, that'd make my day. :-)

Mazel tov!

Brin, you've been linked, and now I can think of nothing other than how to get live moss in Texas.

I'm pretty sure they used to edit it from the the TV version. I never saw the manure scene for the longest time. (I also saw Airplane about 18 times before seeing the uncensored version.)

Thank you! That can be my resolution for the year -- to get to the point where I resurrect this thread next year at the appropriate time! Ha. :D

Oh, gosh, did my comment get eaten?

Ana Mardoll said...

Fixed it! You've been introduced to the Disqus Whitelist now so it shouldn't happen again. And thank you!! :D

Thank you to you too! Now, um, about getting rid of that terrible image attachment…! *blush* I didn’t expect the standard Dreamwidth linkity HTML to work like that.

Ana Mardoll said...

Yeah, Disqus has been fussy this week. It didn't catch the Jessica png file I posted in one comment and then douple-posted the Mike png file across two other comments. WEIRD. o.O

I, too, am on Dreamwidth at Nonsensical Ramblings of Finely-Tuned Insanity, but I don't actually blog all that much - mostly I'm an aggregator of news links and provider of snark on same news links.

Here's to this year being better than our best year ever.

I just wanted to say that I love you all, too!!! :D

And, umm...I suppose it wouldn't be narcisstic to send out a link...?

Right now, you guys can bash the abstinence-only education with me. If you like. ;)

I don't understand Twitter, and I'm barely on Facebook, but I've got a Dreamwidth. I'm afraid I friendslock some - mostly things I wouldn't want to be wandering loose on the web, like things about people I know off line or work or the like. But there's a lot I don't friendslock, too, often fiction related.

(Yes, I pretty much use early women writers as my 'nyms online.)

I also have a semi-silly thing that I'm doing that will be a combination of actual serious posts about MMOs and me, er, blogging as some of my MMO characters. The latter part there is something between fan fic and a writing exercise (I'm trying to get better at voices, as opposed to everyone sounding like me.). So, er, it's at:
