Self-Promotion: Calling All Indie Authors

Ana's Note: Text found here.

Given that -- in the latest poll -- 83% of you are either interested in self-publishing or "maybe" interested in self-publishing, I'm going to start talking about self-publishing more in upcoming posts, including my dream of having a loose community of indie authors coupled under the same label and pooling resources to get All The Nice Things traditionally denied to self-publishers. With that in mind, here's the opening FAQ on the AMP website:

Acacia Moon Publishing is a conglomeration of self-published indie authors who have chosen to pool their titles under a single catalog in order to distribute their books to as many outlets as possible. Our goal is to provide titles through every available marketplace and ecosystem. This lessens the gap between readers and writers, and allows consumers to support authors through whatever means they are most comfortable with.

Authors who publish under Acacia Moon handle their own sales through regular retail outlets, but may also chose to make their titles available to outlets open to larger publishers. Publishing under the AMP label is as simple as using an AMP-purchased ISBN, which marks a book as part of the AMP catalog.

Authors retain full control over their books and all copyrights, as well as the choice of distribution outlets and pricing. The author is paid directly by their chosen outlets and AMP has no legal standing (or desire) to interfere in the sales process. The only effective difference between ordinary self-publishing and self-publishing under the Acacia Moon label is:

1. An ISBN is supplied from the AMP account with Bowker. This allows authors to pool resources to purchase ISBNs cheaply in bulk.
2. A webpage and blogging community is supplied for the author on the AMP website. This allows authors to pool webpage resources and readers.
3. Community help is supplied to the author throughout the self-publishing process. This allows authors to pool knowledge to help each other "get back to writing".
4. Access is provided to sites which serve reviewers and libraries (NetGalley, Overdrive). This allows authors access to sites which require "X-or-more" titles for inclusion.
5. Anthology projects are organized for authors who have short stories ready for publishing. This allows authors immediate dissemination and audience growth.

Readers are encouraged to check out our list of writers and resources, and to visit our blog for details on new releases and insight into the world of self-publishing. Writers are welcome to contact us with anthology collaboration ideas or if they are interested in self-publishing under our label.

J.D. think it could use some whittling, and she's probably right, but it is what it is for the moment until I have a better idea of what parts of this is clear and what parts are unclear. That's where you Interested In Self-Publishing folks come in! What impressions do you have from this? Any questions? Thoughts? Ideas? Does the idea of a community of indie authors helping each other out on a strictly volunteer basis (no, seriously, this is not meant to be Drama, it'll be loose and fun and simple) appeal to you at all or am I dreaming the impossible dream?

Feedback welcome!

*Raises hand* While I haven't short story'd or poem'd in a very, very long time (so I think I wouldn't get into the anthology) I am interested if not concerned I won't... Fit in. I have a rough draft of a book that is in the process of being edited, and once it IS edited I was going to put it up on my blog one chapter at a time. I was hoping that maybe at the end of the day enough people would like it that I could self-publish a small run or release an e-book. This sounds like it would fit nicely into what I want to do as I know NOTHING about publishing, and would still retain full rights so I could put it out in multiple places.

The thing I'm wondering about is are you hoping to have a cohesive theme, or genre, or type of writing under this label, or is it simply "INDIE AUTHORS UNITE! TOGETHER WE CAN HAVE THE NICE THINGS!" and anything goes stylistically and genre wise? Will there be a fee to JOIN said label since we're trying to pool together to buy ISBNs? Or would that be a periodic "So time to buy some more, who can chip in?".

Hrm. Reading over the list of things, I wonder how many ISBN you have in your stash, as they're supposed to have a one-to-one correspondence - one ISBN for each edition of a book - if Acacia went, say, P.O.D., then there should be one number for the electronic and one for the print (and possibly one more for the audio). I realize that buying a giant stash makes each individual one cheaper, but I don't know how many you have and how quickly they might be eaten if you get lots of authors on board.

On the rest of the list, it could be pared down. I'd separate the part about easy-made anthology projects from the "what you get by writing with us" section. (Actually, that might be a nice hook, especially for those of us who think we might be lacking the chops to do full novels.)

And, just because, have you given thought to what (on another page) your stance its in case someone comes nosing about wanting to complain about the appropriateness (content-wise) of an A.M. Publishing novel or anthology?

I've been dying to break into publishing somehow. However, the only research I've done is with agents and the big book publishers. I've done some research with magazines, and have a couple dozen rejections. I know very little about self-publishing, and although it seems to have become more reputable over the years, I still don't know if I'd be cut out for it.

Self-publishing sounds interesting to me and sounds like the best way, really, to get my work out there and for me to retain all my rights, but I also am pretty terrible at business. I find it incredibly hard to navigate markets, decide on prices, and so forth. So any help would be appreciated.

My thoughts boil down to: this is really cool. ^_^

@ CleverNamePending, I'm already working on a "resources" page (like the "writers" page on the Acacia Moon Publishing site) that would list indie artists, indie editors, and indie narrators that I've worked with and what books they've worked on so people can see their work on display. Anyone who wanted to be added to the "these folks are cool working with indies" would be welcome to join. However, the idea in progress is that they would still be *paid* by any indie authors referred to them.

If anyone wanted to leap in and *donate* editing and/or resume help, that would be AWESOME, but that would probably only help early on when they're looking for practice or testimonials for building their own brand. :)

But by all means, yes, bring anyone into the conversation!

Ana Mardoll said...

@ Silver Adept, I initially bought a group of 10 ISBNs and have 7 left: 1 used for eBook Pulchritude, 1 used for POD Pulchritude, and 1 used for audio book Pulchritude. If we have 5-or-more authors on board by the time I need more ISBNs, I'll purchase the 100 block for $575 and anyone who *wants* to help defray costs for their use can, but for the first run at least that will be strictly voluntary.

http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/4677/isbns.png

The idea here is a "each according to hir own talents". I currently have some money to sink into this project, but I'm not a good recruiter because I don't have the time to participate on the NaNo forums or Authonomy or wherever else the cool kids are hanging out these days. So someone with no money to contribute but lots of free time might help by picking up on the blogging pace for more interesting content on AMP or by recruiting more indies or whatever. And some indies may be happy to just sink some money in and barely participate because they're shy. Whatever makes people happy: this is meant to bridge the traditional gap between either you do it ALL ON YOUR OWN AND WEEP LONELY TEARS WHEN YOU RUN INTO A PROBLEM as an indie or being picked up by a traditional publisher.

Yeah, I left the anthology hook in there since a lot of people are still a little scared about FULL NOVEL. But it does look a tad out of place on the list. Not sure how to fix that.

Re: Content, my first-and-initial thought is that people can direct their complaints to the nearest brick wall because I am not interested in censoring everyone's novel for content and free speech and book burning and FREEEEEEDOM. My second thought is that I really would like the authors to provide trigger warnings or explicit descriptions of what to expect between the covers -- if nothing else, this is good marketing, because it helps people who want to find your book to FIND IT and it helps people who would hate your book avoid it and thereby not leave angry 1-star ratings.

Ana Mardoll said...

I've got a book in the works tentatively called "Indie Savvy" and it's going to basically be a series of blog posts about all this. The blog posts will be posted here and at AMP as I complete them. So stay tuned! :)

Also, I thought I saw someone ask about genre, and that's one reason why AMP isn't going to recruit by genre: most indie authors have a wide array of books. My first novel was fantasy, my next one will be YA, and I've got a non-fiction self-publishing guide I'm working on. And that's BEFORE I dust of my sci-fi stuff. So all genres are welcome.

chris the cynic said...

If I ever managed to finish a book then I'll be taking it to you. As for the anthologies, same problem (I produce fragments much more readily than stories, short or otherwise) but I'd be willing to give it a shot. Could probably come up with something for any of those anthologies. The problem is doing it.

Jenna Moran said...

How do your anthologies feel about stories previously released online?

( e.g. http://imago.hitherby.com/2006/05/the-cut-off-mans-father/ )

Ana Mardoll said...

My anthologies say FEED ME SEYMOUR and do not care if a story has been released somewhere else previously. :-D

(Mom just pulled up to take me for a walk; then I'll come back and read it properly, but that's the realsy answer -- I don't want/need/expect first runs.)

Jenna Moran said...

On an unrelated note, I've contacted an editor I've enjoyed working with in the past---he edited a couple of RPG projects, one of mine and one I was tangentially associated with---and pointed him here.

Ana Mardoll said...

Jenna, that was REALLY GOOD, and I'm not just saying that because this is a recruitment thread, I'm saying that because I was able to read about half of it before my walk and then spent the whole walk wanting to get back in here and finish it. And I know pretty much nothing about economics and still found it interesting. I'm deeply impressed. :)

Jenna Moran said...

Thank you for your kind words!

At one point I had a publication deal for the archives of the site, but the company involved kind of fell down---they wanted an art-heavy version but then didn't really want to buy art, and so we compromised on a few short comics interspersed with text but then a couple of artists fell through on the comics, and then I resolved to just release it all as an ePub but just then I suddenly got really productive for a while and so my aspirations reached a higher level, and then my productivity and spoons fell off before I'd done much on it, and so forth and so on. Anyway, what should I do to formally submit the Cut-Off Man's Father to Happiness is Mandatory? (Possibly after some touching up.)

I regrettably can't offer them to anthologies at this point, but you might also like http://imago.hitherby.com/2006/03/morgan-thurible-laboratories-a-love-story/ and http://imago.hitherby.com/2006/03/sixs-story/ -- Spring 2006 seems to have been good to me. ^_^

I feel like a kid on Christmas morning -- you're the first person to ask. :-D

*SQUEEEEEEEEE*

Can you view this thread? http://www.wishfulwriters.com/forums/topic/official-anthology-submission-thread/ If you can't it says:

This is the official anthology submission thread. If you are interested in submitting a story for one of the in-work anthologies, please post:

1. The name of the story
2. The name you wish to be credited as in the anthology (i.e., “A. Mardoll” or “Ana Mardoll” or…)
3. The full text of the story or a link to where the full text is already available.

You can also send an email to AcaciaMoonPublishing@gmail.com with this information if you don’t or can’t post in this thread.

The thought occurs that I can start a running counter on the anthology page. So "Happiness is Mandatory" would be (1/15) now. And you are welcome to polish to your heart's content while we get the other 14. I have an idea for a story in that anthology, but I have to actually write it.

I also need to work out some thoughts on the "author bio" format to follow each story so that people will have a template to work from. SO MANY THINGS TO DO!!

Am I correct that there is no forum registration at present? I'll toss you an email.

J.D. manages the forum software -- I *think* it uses Wordpress registration. Some of the folks here have posted there, I know. Crud, I'll have to ask her; I'm not very technically good at forum building.

But I did get your email! *happy dance*

Since my last post may not have been terribly clear: I can in fact view the thread! ^_^

Currently I can't post to it without registration, and registration seemed to lead to a "you can't register currently" page, but viewing works fine and I like the forum color/font scheme; very easy on the eyes.

Best wishes,

Just wanted to add in that I will be sending over a short story for anthology consideration as well. You have great timing in putting this out there, I've been trying to figure out what to do w/ this particular short story, and I reall do live the idea of AMP.

This is exciting. AMP seems I be exactly what I was looking for as I figure out this whole self-publishing business.

Oh yeah, regarding free time and blogging/nano-forums/etc, I would be quite interested in helping with that...

Ana Mardoll said...

Dear ye gods, that would be immensely helpful on ALL fronts. I'm dreadful at recruiting because I'm not involved in a lot of communities and the only blogging I've done so far on AMP has been either:

1. What is this AMP of which you speak?
2. How do I do this whole self-publishing thing?
3. What has Ana been writing these days, fiction-speaking?

EdinburghEye said...

Um. *waves shyly* This sounds good.

I am at the moment much more of a non-fiction blogger than I am anything else, but I have written short stories, a couple of them even got published, and I'm a pretty good editor. I'd happily trade editing time if we can work out some kind of freegle method to do that.

Ana Mardoll said...

OK, I can't get hold of Teli, so for the moment I'll make a Nabble forum and I'll fill that up later today.

http://www.acaciamoonpublishing.com/p/forums.html

(Still needs colors and stuff. But I KNOW people can register and post there!)

Ice said...

Well, I have a nano profile, so I can definitely take some time to be a loudmouth on the boards, and I can take to twitter, or fb, or whatever social network you like. I would love to help promote AMP!

Ana Mardoll said...

Alright, update!

I've updated the main page to be a little more aesthetically pleasing, words-wise.

http://www.acaciamoonpublishing.com/

I have a temporary Nabble forum up until J.D. can finish the W.W. forums which she says may take some time. We can migrate everything over when that happens, no harm no foul.

http://www.acaciamoonpublishing.com/p/forums.html

I have a lengthier FAQ up.

http://acacia-moon-publishing.35121.n6.nabble.com/Acacia-Moon-Publishing-F-A-Q-tp4.html

Ana Mardoll said...

Here my "official email pitch" that I've been sending off to indies who have interviewed on the board in the past.

----

My apologies for the unsolicited email, but I wanted to let you know that I and a few other indie authors have started an “indie author conglomeration” for authors who are interested in pooling titles into a single catalog in order to get exposure to sites that service reviewers and libraries (like NetGalley and Overdrive) but which are currently closed to publishers who don’t have a significant number of titles available. We’re recruiting indie authors who might be interested in publishing under our label or who might want to contribute a short story to one of our anthologies.

More here, if you’re interested: http://acacia-moon-publishing.35121.n6.nabble.com/Acacia-Moon-Publishing-F-A-Q-tp4.html

And I do apologize again for calling out-of-the-blue. Hope life is treating you well. :)

----

Feel free to adapt as the situation requires. :) Though, of course, try not to be annoying about it. Although look at me, who's talking. I'm the Queen of Annoying Promotion, I'm sure. :P

JonathanPelikan said...

I'm both interested and very confused and intimidated, probably as a function of my never being published and never even finishing a book before. I have written chapters, though. And I've got Big Ideas, which are all you really need to be successful writer, right? So I'd like to be a part of this if I ever manage to successfully complete a writing project and I'd also be willing to chip in a bit.

Aidan Bird said...

I'm a moderator at LegendFire - http://www.legendfire.com/forums/ - so I can also let the people know there about this opportunity. There's a lot of indie authors on the forum there, plus a lot more wanna-be-authors. So I can help promote AMP since I'm fairly well entrenched as the friendly moderator there.

Is there anything in particular you want highlighted before I write up anything to present there?

Ana Mardoll said...

Aidan, you're awesome. I think the FAQ link I posted two comments up is sufficient. I guess if I had to highlight anything, it's just that this is meant to be symbiotic and beneficial and low-stress for everyone involved and this isn't some kind of Ponzi scheme. But there's no way to really KNOW that without knowing the people involved, so that's probably not something that can be said in words. :D

Ana Mardoll said...

YES! OMG, I have, like, THREE PEOPLE NOW.

We need to start doing bios soon for the Writers page. I can feel it.

Aidan Bird said...

@Ana, This is good to hear! I can't wait to read those posts. I'm sure they'll be immensely helpful.

I'm a science fiction writer mostly (though I write sci fi themed YA sometimes). Are you planning on any anthologies that are science fiction themed entirely? You have a futuristic dystopia, but I wouldn't really call that sci fi - for the dystopia may or may not feature significant technology. I was just curious since a good two-thirds of what I write is science fiction.

I do have a paranormal short story on the back burner that I can edit and it could fit into the Fairy Tale one (it's a major twist on Red Riding Hood, from which I was inspired); although now that I think of it, it could fit the Ghost Stories anthology too....

For the short story anthologies, do you read through and suggest edits? Or do you take them as is? I know a few anthologies I tried submitting too would go the editing route, but I don't know if its standard or not.

I have a gazillion questions, can you tell? I hope you don't mind. This is such an exciting topic!

Ana Mardoll said...

I'm excited too!

Re: SciFi, I hadn't thought of a good name for a SciFi anthology. Suggestions are VERY WELCOME.

Re: The Process. Since the submission process is going to be kind of slow for awhile, I'd suggest people post their submission details in the Official Thread and then we can have an "editing" thread for people who want insight on the story as it currently stands and people can talk it out over time as more submissions come in.

*I* personally would probably not be involved in that portion much because I'm staying pretty busy with all the other details. But we have a LOT of writers on this board and I hope the community in the forums will flourish as it has here in the comments.

When we finally have 15 submissions for an anthology, we'll give everyone 2 months to finish polishing and submitting their stuff. Then the AMP committee -- which may or may not include an indie editor donating hir time -- will do a final proofing of the collection before publishing.

Ice said...

I will definitely be in touch with some thoughts about this later on tonight after i get out of work. This is officially the most exciting thing to happen to me today, I can't wait to get into this some more!
Also you spelled "Queen of Annoying Promotion" wrong. It should be "Queen of Fortuitous Timing and Exciting News for Self-Publishing Authors"

Ana Mardoll said...

Aw, shucks, Ice. I'm blushing. :D

I've created a "resources" page for editors, artists, etc.

http://www.acaciamoonpublishing.com/p/resources.html

chris the cynic said...

What kind of sci-fi are you thinking of. I mean you had a specific idea for Secretary and Sorcery thing, it's a broad idea that can probably cover infinite stories, but it's specific enough to work towards a title.

Music of the Spheres - An anthology about musicians in space-faring empires
Is going to be very different from
Aliens in the Avacados - An anthology about contemporary farmers and their encounters with the of of this world.

What's the scope you're looking for.

Ana Mardoll said...

Well, I honestly don't know, so that's a good point.

Maybe people should just start posting their short stories in the forum and we can start picking and pulling out a theme, in addition to editing.

http://www.acaciamoonpublishing.com/p/forums.html

And here's where I have to do my little WORRY BUTTERFLIES because if this is going to work -- and I really want it to, what with it being my dream and all -- the community help portion is going to have to be more than just me. If we have 5 anthologies of 15 stories each being pulled together, that's 75 stories. People will have to be brave and post their work; other people will have to be nice and READ the work and comment on it. I can't individually mentor 75 different stories in a year, much as I'd like to.

So that's MY Nervous Butterflies on this: that it'll fall apart because people will be too afraid to post. Please, please, please don't be too afraid to post. Forum. Pretty. Here.http://www.acaciamoonpublishing.com/p/forums.html

JonathanPelikan said...

Where should one go if one just wants to talk about writing, writing ideas, brainstorming, post their stuff, etc, in a general way? I recall something about a forum but my bookmarks and my memory and uh.

I'm also going to be keeping tabs on this, though :D

Ana Mardoll said...

That WAS Wishful Writers (http://www.wishfulwriters.com/forums/ ) but J.D. is having some real life issues and programming difficulties so she had to lock that down for the moment.

We're migrating over to here (http://www.acaciamoonpublishing.com/p/forums.html ) and if J.D. gets WW back up by the end of the year or so, we'll migrate back over. But that's an "if" and we're trying not to put strain on her. :)

JonathanPelikan said...

Ah, fair enough. Just registered for the Moon, after a brief fret over what to register as. I like J. Pelikan, though, just because I've always been a fan of that abbreviated-first-name style.
(It's just more my last name is a silly name. But after mandatory education I finally started to realize there was nothing for it; it's my name, haters will hate, and shortening-abbreviating won't help... because it's still there.)
Maybe I'll just start to spam Acacia with my writing bunk, then :D

Ana Mardoll said...

Oh, please do. The more people start taking there, the less I have to fret that I'm taking to myself.

Ana Mardoll said...

There's also a link to the forums at the top of this blog now.

Aidan Bird said...

I can personally vouch for you, which would really boost their willingness to trust you. Since I've been a moderator for three years there, people tend to take my suggestions very seriously since I've established trust and reliability over time. So I'm hoping I can leverage that to boost your site as a safe and good site for potential authors. Especially if I admit that I'm talking with you about this personally.

I'll be sure to use the FAQ link then, and will work on posting a thread for this today. : )

At some point I want to write a book, but I'm still thinking it'll be nonfiction. Would that be of any interest?

I've changed the name of my blog because I'm going to start a second blog, that will be dedicated to posts relevant to editing and writing; that blog will reuse the name 'Fiadhiglas Wordsmithery'.

I'm planning to become a freelance copyeditor soon. I would be willing to donate some of my editing efforts to this AMP project-thingy. Details right now are sketchy, but as I figure stuff out, I'll keep you updated.

Ana Mardoll said...

All genres welcome. And I'm excited to put you in the "resources" page once we work all the kinks out there. Maybe I can recruit you to be on the anthology committee? ;)

Phew. I'm excited about all the interest, but a little anxious too. Promise me ya'll won't be too nervous to pitch in on the forum? No one has posted anything yet. :)

Laiima said...

It's not nerves keeping me away from the forum. Right now, I'm in the mode of "OMG, if I'm going to start a business up, there are 1001 things I need to do Right Away. Which ones need to come first?" Once I have *some* idea what I'm doing, I'll show up.

Ana Mardoll said...

This has been very exciting, and I don't want to slow the momentum at all, and everyone should go ahead and post their stories in the forum, BUT at the same time I'm going to go take a very short sabbatical from all things internet-y, at least as much as I can. Husband has pointed out that I'm still on massive depressants and narcotics and I really should be lying down right now.

Keep up the community building, ya'll, and like I said I've got some upcoming posts that I think will interest everyone on the subject. *hugs*

Aidan Bird said...

@Ana: About your forum on AMP: I honestly can't make any headway with the validation code because the picture is all weirdly colored. Is it case sensitive as well? I honestly can't tell with that either. I've tried three times, and it keeps claiming that my validation code doesn't match the picture... but to my eyes it does. I can always try again some other time.

Does anyone else have this problem with them? Is there ways around this?

About the science fiction anthology, here's some ideas (be warned, they're probably corny and terrible):

Planet Pitstops: An anthology that hurtles through tales of the wonders (and not so wondrous) of space: humanity's final frontier.

That One Weird Encounter: An anthology exploring the range of encounters between humans and alien species.

Ana Mardoll said...

I didn't think I had validation codes on the forum! Is it the Nabble registration process?

Aidan Bird said...

Yes, sadly enough. The colors kinda hurt my eyes if I look at them too long. Can I use my wordpress registration somehow and skip Nabble's?

Ana Mardoll said...

Can you send me an email? I can create an account for you.

Aidan Bird said...

Sure! That works for me. Thank you.

chris the cynic said...

Be careful with that. Lying down is presulably going be good for your body, but having less stimulation might not work well with the depression. There have definitely been times for me when if I didn't have the internet to keep my mind constantly occupied I'd have a breakdown.

Hopefully nothing like that will happen with you, especially since you've got family around. But just as you shouldn't neglect your physical health in favor of your mental health, you shouldn't do the reverse either. So, again, be careful.

JonathanPelikan said...

Don't worry, Ana, you take all the time you need. :D That's what I like about forums; they're a bit more permanent than things might be on the... the... the D-word. -glances at the comment system-

Ana, (and everyone else involved, of course!) I created a twitter profile for AMP, @acaciamoonpub. It is just bare bones right now, but at least the acccount is up. I'm a big fan of twitter, and would greatly enjoy taking good chunk of the publicity/recruiting in that venue.

Of course, Ana, the account is all yours if you want to take it over. Either way, it seems like a good space to network and find other self-pub authors to reach out to.

Ana Mardoll said...

*sigh* Does it really, Chris? Nerts. I'm lost without any kind of guidance on this. The hospital did NOT give me a "what to do if your meds make you depressed" booklet.

TW: TMI, Illness

I felt great this morning until suddenly I started vomiting more heavily than anything I've ever felt before, which is hard on the back incision, let me tell you. I'm still shaking, and we don't know if my body is rejecting my meds or if I'm not eating enough with the meds, or... what. I'll be spending most of today in bed, though, if this shakiness doesn't pass. I'm only up eating "breakfast" right now and answering email.

Ana Mardoll said...

Thank you, Jonathan. I need the occasional reminder that deadlines are not always NOW NOW NOW. :)

Ana Mardoll said...

Ice, I could hug you so hard right now. I think a Twitter account is a wonderful idea, and I'm thrilled that the community is taking the initiative to own this. I'll go follow right now.

Ana Mardoll said...

Oh! And there's a logo on the AcaciaMoonPublishing.com site that you're welcome to use as an avatar for the account, if you've not already.

Ice said...

I tried, but it wouldn't save right. When I tried to save it, I would get a "negative" version of the image where the books are white and everything else is black. If you have a copy saved to a hard drive or something maybe we could get it uploaded that way. I'll inbox you the password on the account if you want to get in and make any changes or take executive control at any point :)

Ice said...

I think this is just the best thing that's happened all week, so I will admit, I'm a little over-excited about this! I'll add some more to the profile throughout the day today. This will be such fun!

chris the cynic said...

The trouble is that depression is, and the people that have it are, varied enough that for any given thing it could be completely different for different people.

So the best I can say is do what you think is best for your body, but try to keep an eye on how, if it at all, it changes your mood. And since you might not be objective about it, if you could have someone else , your family perhaps, do the same that might help.

And hopefully that will be entirely unnecessary because you won't have any such problems.

Evan said...

Ana - Thank you very much for starting this project! I was staying up way too late last night reading over my unpublished stories and book trying to decide what to do with them. Unfortunately, most don't quite fit your anthologies... e.g. my dystopias tend to have a past rather than futuristic flavor.

Ice - I looked at the logo; its background is transparent. Just open it in any image editor (for instance, MS Paint on Windows; KPaint on Linux; I've never used a Mac) and click "fill with" white. I'd edit it myself if I had a place to upload it.

Thanks, I am on a Mac, but Ana sent me a copy of the image that fixes the transperency/color inversion problem.

Perhaps it's just me being a lump, but it would cool to make it into a general 'writer community' as well.

Not lumpy at all; I think that could be awesome. We have a lot of writers here already, and it would be nice to have a safe space writing community. Hard to find one that is relatively safe space friendly.

There is now an ISBN submission form here (and will eventually be an form that people can fill out and auto-email).
